The Joeten Daidai Foundation awarded a total of $14,000 worth of scholarships to seven high school graduates at the Joeten Susupe executive conference room last Wednesday, June 20, 2018.

Each recipient received a check for $2,000 to assist them with their college funds.

Six recipients were selected from Saipan and one recipient was from Rota; there were no candidates that applied from Tinian this year.

The scholars are Louise Z. Li of Marianas High School, Mei Lin of Saipan Southern High School, Shana Mafnas of Mount Carmel School, Ma. Chrizelle Omotoy of Marianas High School, Theresa Zheng of Mount Carmel School, and Mary B. Jingco of Dr. Rita Hocog Inos Junior Senior High School.

One scholarship was exclusively granted to a child of an employee of one of Joeten’s subsidiaries or affiliates. Quina S. Flores of Mount Carmel School received that award.

Each student will be pursuing their bachelor degrees in either Business, Education or Health.

The eligible high school seniors were anonymously chosen by the board of directors based on their grade point average, community involvement, extracurricular activities, and academic excellence. Additionally, each student was tasked to write an essay on a quote from the late Steve Jobs: “Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

Established in 1994, the Joeten Daidai Foundation has continually fulfilled its mission to give back to the community by promoting the advancement of education, religion, science, and charitable deeds. The donations awarded by the Joeten Daidai Foundation would not be feasible without the generosity and support from the Joeten affiliates, such as Saipan Shipping Co., Saipan Stevedore Co., Pacific Insurance Underwriters, Inc. among many other business partners of Joeten, and friends.
