The Joeten Daidai Foundation has donated a 2016 Kia Rio as a hole-in-one prize for a golf fundraiser being organized by the Friends of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library for the benefit of the state library.
Patty Palacios McDonald, executive director of the Joeten Daidai Foundation, said the brand new sedan will be a great incentive to encourage the island’s golfers to enter the 2nd JKPL Fundraising Golf Tournament, which is set this Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Laolao Bay Golf and Resort west course.
“We thought it would entice the players to purchase tickets and help support the event if there was a brand new car as a prize,” said McDonald. “The golf tournament is important in regards to funding for the many library renovations being done right now—renovations that haven’t been made since the opening [of the JKPL] in 1991.”
Elizabeth Tenorio of Joeten Motors said, “We are about to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the library this December so we have been trying to attain more funding for improvements in the library. The upcoming tournament is meant to raise money for the library and the Joeten Daidai [Foundation] just wanted to spice things up by donating a car.”
“I think it’s great! I believe it adds a lot of friendly competition and excitement to the tournament. Of course anyone would be excited to receive a brand new car and I’m happy about the donation. I’m glad the foundation decided to sponsor this and I look forward to the event this Saturday,” Tenorio added.
JKPL acting director Erlinda Naputi said, “We are very pleased with the donation to make our golf fundraiser more attractive and sellable. We’re fortunate to have the Joeten Daidai Foundation supporting us. They’ve been supporting us since day one. Wth the donation today, it’s evident that they are committed to helping the community.”
Aside from the Kia Rio offered in one hole, the tournament is also dangling $5,000 in cash on another hole-in-one hole. For more information about the 2nd JKPL Fundraising Golf Tournament, call 235-7322 or 7316.
