The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library’s Summer Reading Program kicked off yesterday. The program’s theme is “A Universe of Stories!”

Participants were introduced to space-related activities, programs, and reading challenges. Other activities included are the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)-related activities, exploratory space programs, arts & crafts, music, dance, story exploring activities, and many more.

Participants will also be going to several field trips throughout the island, as they will be visiting the Guma Sakman today and the NMI Museum on Friday.

Free lunch and breakfast are provided to all registered participants, courtesy of the Public School System.

The program will be held until July 19 and there are two ongoing sessions. Session A: ages 6-8, will be from 8:30am to 11:30am. Session B: ages 9 to 12, will be from 12:30pm to 3pm.

According to JKPL technical services librarian Beth Demapan, both sessions are full and each session holds 60 participants with a total of 120 participants.

“We have a waiting list and if there are participants that want to back out, we will add them into the program,” Demapan added.

For those who were unable to join the event, JKPL will also be initiating its annual Bookmobile Summer Library Program. The Bookmobile will be providing a high-quality summer reading program covering the remote villages.

The Children’s Library will be closed until 4pm for the duration of the Summer Reading Program.
