The Joeten Kiyu Public Library held a special recognition ceremony yesterday morning for 14 of its staff and more than 30 volunteers to recognize their dedication and hard work that enables the library to provide its many services to the public.
Government officials led by Gov. Eloy S. Inos, volunteers, parents, staff, and members of the CNMI Library Council attended the ceremony.
JKPL executive director John Gonzales said it was a great opportunity for the library to recognize their hardworking staff and volunteers and to show that the state library also has programs coming up for the community.
JKPL technical services librarian Rosalyn Ajoste said she is happy that the ceremony was held to acknowledge the efforts of their staff and volunteers.
Volunteer Elaine Ermitanio, 18, and a senior at Marianas High School, said it was an honor to be recognized.
“I’ve been volunteering for the library since November last year and I feel good that they recognized us,” Ermitanio said. She is also under the Americorps Program and a member of the MHS National Honor Society.
Another MHS senior, Amery Madeloso, said she has been volunteering every Saturday since 2012 and is happy to know that the library can see her hard work. The 18-year-old is also under the Americorps Program and is a member of the MHS Cheerleading Squad and MHS Filipino Club.
JKPL library assistant Victoria Cabrera said she felt great to have her hard work appreciated and acknowledged. She has been working at the library for five years now.
JKPL Bookmobile Outreach assistant Xerxes Mangarero, who has been working for the library for three years, said he is happy that he gets to work with kids under the Bookmobile program.
“We came here today to show our appreciation for our partners, staff, and most especially the volunteers who come in and help patrons,” said Library Council chair Mark Rabauliman said.
Other government officials that attended were Reps. Richard Seman (R-Saipan), Chris Leon Guerrero (Cov-Saipan), Edmund Villagomez (Cov-Saipan), Larry Deleon Guerrero (Ind-Saipan), and Felicidad Ogumoro (R-Saipan), and press secretary Angel Demapan.
