Veteran golfer Me Ae Jeon won her third Ladies Flight championship in the 2023 NMC Open Golf Tournament last Sunday at the Lao Lao Bay Golf & Resort.

The 63-year-old tour company manager nipped Guam youngster Tyanna Jacot by a stroke to follow her victories in the same competition in 2018 and 2019.

Jeon finished with a two-round score of 157. She struggled on Day 1 of the fundraising tournament for the CNMI’s lone community college with an 83 before returning with the vengeance on Day 2 with an excellent 74.

She said golf conditions in this year’s NMC Golf Open wasn’t that bad and winning the Ladies Flight was not really a surprise despite it being a two-round event.

The hardest hole was the 8th on Day 2 where she double bogeyed.

Jeon, who has been playing golf the past 18 years, also previously hoisted the Ladies Flight tiaras in the Tournament of Champions, HANMI Golf Tournament, and other minor golf tournaments.

Jacot, meanwhile, finished with a 158 following twin 79s in both playing dates. Northern Marianas Pacific Mini Games 2022 gold medalist Zhimin Jin wound up third after 161 following an 81 on the first day and 80 on the second day.

In the B Flight, Darion Jones played his last competition in the division after his two-day total of 160 was enough to win. He shot an 82 on Saturday before improving by four strokes on Sunday to take the win.

Arvin Ogo finished runner-up with a 168 (80-88), while Alexander Sablan completed the Top 3 in the B Flight with his 173 (89-84).

Results of the other divisions of the NMC Golf Open will be published in the next editions of the Saipan Tribune.
