A former Marianas Visitors Bureau managing director will be presented with a Japanese decoration as one of the several foreign recipients of the 2018 Autumn Imperial Decoration.

Jesus Manuel “J.M.” V. Deleon Guerrero would be awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, making him the third person in the CNMI to be awarded the decoration in the CNMI. The award is in recognition of his contributions promoting tourism exchange between Japan and the U.S.

Deleon Guerrero is credited with creating the foundation of the present economic and business relationship between Japan and the CNMI through tourism exchange.

“His great leadership increased the number of tourists and the number of direct flights to the CNMI from Japan for 12 years,” a statement from the Consular Office of Japan noted.

Deleon Guerrero was managing director of MVB in 1977.

The conferment ceremony for Deleon Guerrero would be held on Dec. 6, 2018, in the Consular Office of Japan, with his wife Rieko Guerrero accompanying him.

Deleon Guerrero last Feb. 23, 2017 was awarded the Consul-General’s Commendations for his contribution in promoting tourism exchange between Japan and the CNMI.
