According to the NSHSS website, members of the organization are expected to strive for excellence in their academic endeavors and use their knowledge and wisdom to the best of their ability for the betterment of the global community.
Iwai, a student of Mount Carmel since the 6th grade, is not only accomplished academically but also dedicates much of her time to extracurricular activities. She is involved in the school’s notable Theater Club as business manager, is a member of the Journalism Club, is business manager for MCS’ Year Book Club, and was inducted last year into the local chapter of the high school National Honor Society.
“It is an honor to be a part of the organization,” she said. “I am grateful to my school for giving me such a good education with a strong Catholic foundation in order for me to achieve academic success in my life.”
The 15-year-old plans to pursue a degree in business after high school and hopes to one day own and run a business of her own on island.
She is the daughter of Mikie Iwai.
Fellow junior Janika Taimanao, for her part, said that being a part of NSHSS “makes me feel like I have more opportunities of getting into great colleges that fit my needs.”
Taimanao, who has attended MCS for eight years, is not only an active member of her school’s theater club and journalism program, but is an avid basketball, volleyball, softball, and outrigger sports athlete.
She plans on studying history in college while taking part in college level theater and sports.
Taimanao is the daughter of Francis and Frances Taimanao
