IT&E successful with ‘aerial’ fiber

“Aerial” fiber was successfully installed on power poles on Tinian, boosting Internet capacity on Saipan late Monday night.

IT&E said yesterday that round-the-clock efforts by their technicians brought “major” additional Internet capacity to Saipan through the use of “aerial fiber” installed over the weekend.

IT&E installed the fiber with the help of Docomo Pacific personnel, Commonwealth Utilities Corp. line crews, and Telesource staff.

As of yesterday, the repair ship identified to fix the damaged undersea fiber optic cable, which caused the network communications outage last Wednesday, was not yet on its way to Saipan.

IT&E said yesterday that plans and logistics are being prepared and the ship would be underway soon.

They said more information would be provided when available.

IT&E parent company PTI CEO Jim Oehlerking is expected to meet with reporters today.
