IT&E, IP&E players take charge

IT&E’s Kyle Kapileo and IP&E’s Tyrese Camacho are ahead in the batting and pitching races in the Major division of the 2014 Saipan Little League Baseball League.

As of Feb. 17, Kapileo is on top of the batting charts, going 9-for-11 in four games with IT&E. He has a batting average of .818 and is the lone player in the leaderboard to go over .700, as the next five averaged in the .600s. Kapileo leads the Comets I’s Glenn Taro and the Braves’ Joe Tudela, who are 6-for-9 at bat for similar averages of .666.

There is also a tie for third place with the Hustlers’ Juan Lizama and the Falcons’ Justin Cangco posting identical averages of .625 after hitting 5-for-8 and 10-for-16, respectively. Another Falcons player Aven Evangelista occupies the fourth spot with his 8-for-13 performance (.615), while four players are in a logjam for fifth place. The Comets I’s Francisco Frederick, the JPO Enforcers’ Rikko Lizama, and the Falcons’ Max Pangelinan all hit 6-for-10 (.600) to join Angel Iguel, also of the Falcons, in the deadlock. Iguel is 9-for-15 at bat.

Completing the batting leaderboard, which was based on eight or more times at bat, are the Red Sox’s Kiana Aldan (7-for-12/.583), IT&E’s Spencer Dickinson (7-for-12/.583), IP&E Rockies’ Tyrese Camacho (9-for-16/.562), and the Comets I’s Clarence Cabrera (5-for-9/.555).

After barely making it to the batting list, Camacho this time enjoys the top view in the pitching category with his 0.22 ERA. In nine innings pitch, he allowed only one run.

Pangelinan is in second place with his 0.90 off 11 innings pitch and two runs allowed, followed by Clarence Cabrera (1.22 ERA), Kenneth Kaipat (1.75), and J.P. Celis (2.18). The pitching leaders were based on at least 8 innings pitched.

Dickinson missed the pitching list, but is on top of the strikeouts category with 30. He leads Camacho (26), Celis (22), Jode Reyes (19), and Cabrera (17).

In other categories, Kyle and Philip Kapileo have the most doubles so far in the league with three apiece, while Tudela, Rikko Lizama, and Pedro Maratita have two each. In the RBIs contest, Cangco and Evangelista share top honors with nine apiece, two more than Iguel’s 7, while Aldan and Thomas Agulto have earned six each.

Agulto has two homers so far to lead Aldan, Camacho, Cangco, Dicksion, and Philip Kapileo, who have one homer apiece. Cangco also barged into the triples leaderboard with his two, tying Juan Lizama, while 11 others have one each. In the runs category, IP&E Rockies’ Dai Podziewski is alone at the top spot with his 15, followed by Camacho (12) and Evangelista and Matthew Richardson, who have nine each.
