IT&E’s Philip Kapileo dislodged the Falcons’ Justin Cangco from the top spot in the batting race, while the Falcons’ Arby Yaguel remained in first place in the pitching contest in the Major division of the 2014 Saipan Little League Baseball.
Kapileo posted a batting average of .612 after last April 6’s games. He went 19-for-21 at the plate to lead 13 others. Cangco slid to second with his .600 average off an 18-for-30 performance at bat. Kapileo’s teammate Spencer Dickinson is in third place after going 22-for-37 and holding a batting average of .594. Also logging batting averages of at least .500 were the Hustlers’ Juan Lizama (.571), the Falcons’ Angel Iguel (.566), the Red Sox’s Kianna Aldan (.566), the Falcons’ Aven Evangelista (.550), the Braves’ Joe Tudela (.535), the Rockies’ Tyrese Camacho (.527), the Braves’ Vicente Camacho (.500), and the Little Legals’ Pedro Maratita (.500).
Completing the list are IT&E’s Christopher Achas (.484), JPO Enforcers’ Dennis Cabrera (.483), and Comets I’s Frederick Francisco (.482). The batting leaders were based on 28 or more times at bat.
In the pitching contest, which was based on 14 or more innings pitched, Yaguel kept his distance against four others. He is ahead of the Braves’ Robin Sablan (0.78 ERA, 3 runs, 23 innings), the Little Legals’ Pedro Maratita (0.80 ERA, 4 runs, 30 innings) and Gloyd Martin (0.94, 3 runs, 19 innings), and the Falcons’ Max Pangelinan (0.94 ERA, 3 runs, 19 innings).
In other categories, Tudela and Maratita are tied for the most doubles with seven apiece, just one ahead of Juan Lizama and Dickinson, while Achas is leading in the triples with his five. In the most home runs, Thomas Agulto has three to lead three others, while Cangco is on top of the RBIs chart with 20. The Rockies’ Dai Podziewski has the most runs with 25, while Maratita leads in strikeouts with 72.
