Isle tidings
For all that may have been derailed by bad tidings of the fatal coronavirus (COVID-19), we retreat to our quiet corner pondering what the beast is all about. It’s a virus that fills the lungs with fluid until the person’s history!
The viral infection is a critical health and life issue that has killed over 40,000 people across the country. The state of Georgia sees 35 deaths daily. It’s more the reason to keep abreast.
This was dovetailed by the huge drop in the price of oil per barrel that took the oil industry by surprise. At any rate, there’s unity focusing on the return of health and the economy.
Recently, Missouri sued China for mishandling the viral infection now a pandemic. The viral infection is fatal.
Resiliency
Indeed, we’ve seen the bad times and came out of it ever strong and ready to deal with issues forthwith. It may be difficult but it isn’t an apocalyptic phenomenon either. Thus, we work diligently once more to secure real answers or solutions.
Though we’re in it with cuts and bruises, I take pride in our effort to move on in unity resetting and resolving obligations heading into the future. The decrease in the economy makes the task a bit blurry, if not disorienting. Don’t give up; it’s the nature of the beast. It means far less for far more. Are we ready for sober discussions and rational decisions in the disposition of asymmetrical issues, including the lack of money that means obligatory cuts to meet the needs of “we the people”?
Leadership
In dizzying disorientation we pace the bad economic times, retreating occasionally, exhausted. It’s more the reason to endure seeking for real answers from one and all.
Have we taken the effort to secure real set of facts to dissect how do we mitigate it? Or do we treat it with the usual adolescent demeanor? Stick with it!
Shut!
President Trump has shut down immigration into the country, reiterating his announced position on “America First.” It stays this way until the 22 million jobless countrymen have found jobs. The only group spared under the new policy is the farming industry and a few others.
Gone!
The economic decrease has shuttered small businesses while rendering employees jobless. It’s a tough situation where it simply wipes out revenues and jobs.
The drop in profits forces a shutter. The business is gone (revenue and jobs) while employees ponder their fate.
The loss of opportunity turns more visible in bad times. The jobless ponder the provision of basic family needs. It’s basically gone! Collecting unemployment checks isn’t the answer. Our people take pride working a meaningful job to bring home the bacon, so to speak.
Earning our dues is imbedded in our being taught by our elders to do it responsibly. It has served as the foundation of filial security in the villages.
The deadly virus is comprised of pathogens that kill and, sadly, there is no medication for it at this point, per medical reports. Even the medical community is mulling its pathology.
Adios
I was profoundly saddened to learn of the untimely passing of my friend, Abed Younis, publisher of the Marianas Variety. In 1972, Younis had a vision of opening a local newspaper. It didn’t take long before he founded what today is the daily MV.
He’s a man of dignity, integrity, and sense of humor. I treasure our friendship through the years. He’s spent many Thursday nights alone pasting the paper.
My late brother, Frank, and I would assist him with stories for publication. Thanks for the outstanding working relationship and lasting friendship. May your journey home be a blessed one! Si JR.

Interesting how the unemployed across the country now make more money than being employed. No wonder most have opted not to seek jobs and not when they collect more without one! Misgiving!
Deadlier
Reportedly, the second wave of the coronavirus could be deadlier than it is today, per a recent medical report. It’s something to anticipate as we head into the holiday season dealing with a strange and fatal virus.
