Islandwide power outage hits Saipan
Saipan experienced an islandwide power outage at 8:59am yesterday due to a short circuit on the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s electrical panel for the radiator on Engine No. 1, causing two engines to also trip.
CUC Power Plant electricians were able to make the necessary repairs to re-energize the feeder circuits as of 10:28am to full restoration. The following feeders were turned back online at the following times below:
• Feeder 1 – 9:40am – Lower Base, China Town, Navy Hill, Portions of Garapan, Puerto Rico, Portions of Sadog Tasi
• Feeder 4 – 9:59am – Sadog Tasi, Capitol Hill, As Teo, Entire Kagman, Wireless Ridge, I Denni, Talafofo, Mt. Tapochau and Papago
• Feeder 7 – 10:06am – Lower Base, Tanapag, Achugao, San Roque and As Matuis
• Kiya 1 – 10:08am – As Terlaje, Fina Sisu, Kannat Tabla, Chalan Kiya, San Vicente, Lower Dandan, Upper Dandan Obyan, Isley Field and Airport Road Dandan
• Feeder 3 – 10:11am – Lower Base, Puerto Rico and Best Sunshine Hotel and Casino
• Feeder 2 – 10:12am – Garapan Beach Road, Chalan Laulau and Northern Part of San Jose
• Kiya 2 – 10:24am – San Antonio, As Lito, As Perdido, Koblerville, As Gonno, Chalan Piao, C.K. District 3, C.K. Southern Part of District 4 and Agingan
• Kiya 3 – 10:25am – Chalan Kiya towards the Gualo Rai intersection in Middle Road
• Kiya 4 – 10:28 a.m – San Jose/Oleai, Susupe and Chalan Kanoa
Feeder restoration completed as of 10:28am
Water service to the areas of Papago, Upper San Vicente, Gualo Rai, Upper MIHA, Chinatown, As Terlaje, Middle Road and Beach Road, Chalan Laulau up to the Gualo Rai intersection and As Falape was offline until 3pm yesterday due to low tank level caused by the islandwide outage. (PR)
