Islander Rent A Car edged Eats Easy-The Game in their matchup in the open division of the United Filipino Organization IT&E 2019 Basketball League last Saturday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Mark Mintac scored a bucket with 1.7 seconds remaining in the game clock to secure a heart-pounding 95-93 victory against Eats Easy-The Game. Moments earlier Arnold Arellano tied the score at 93-all with a basket of his own down to 3.5 seconds, but it proved to be for naught as Mintac again saved the day for Islander Rent A Car, which improved to 7-2 in the win-loss column, while Eats Easy-The Game dropped to 5-4.
Ken Viray was named player of the game after leading Islander Rent A Car with 23 points. Mintac was not far behind with 22 of his own. Arellano paced Eats Easy-The Game in the loss with his 19 buckets, while Jun Fidelino and Joe Sablan added 15 apiece.
In the first game in the masters division, Jun Tabora exploded for 24 points as JSN escaped with an 81-76 victory against Gilas Batang.
It was the seventh win in nine outings for JSN, while the loss was the fourth in nine for Gilas Batang. Teng Alegre and Alex Ocampo scored 13 and 10 points, respectively, in support of Tabora, who was named best player of the contest.
Gilas Batang was led by the 25 points of Dick Tibayan, while John Jugos added 12—all from the land of plenty.
The last game of the trifecta last Saturday saw Saimar Pilot raise its record to 6-3 following a default win over the now 3-6 Islander Rent A Car in the masters division.
Last Thursday, PPG Paint leaned again on the hot hands of player of the game Sony Ebuen to defeat Islander Rent A Car, 78-63, in the masters division.
Joseph Galulu also scored in double figures for PPG Paint, which now sports a 2-7 win-loss card, as opposed to the 3-5 record of Islander Rent A Car, which was led by the 13 points of Fradel Sedillo.
The other game last Thursday saw Pacific Islands Club Saipan finally earn a win in the open division. This, after league-leading Blue Eagles A+ Consultant only showed up with four players. It was the first win against seven losses for PIC, while Blue Eagles absorbed its very first loss after eight games and derailed what could’ve been a perfect season.
