Islander Rent a Car outclassed Saipan Vegas, 74-63, in the Masters Division of the United Filipino Organization IT&E 2019 Basketball League last Sunday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Islander stole the victory from Saipan Vegas and earned the double-digit win after saving the best for last, as it rallied from a 5-point deficit in the third quarter with a 29-point explosion in the fourth.

Rocyl Ritual led Islander’s strong finish after firing 12 of his 13 markers in the deciding fourth canto, which started with Saipan Vegas ahead, 50-45. Fradel Sedillo supported Ritual in bringing Islander back into the game after contributing 8 points, while four other players scored for the winning squad in the final frame.

Saipan Vegas, which led the majority of the match, absorbed a sorry loss, as it had no players scoring more than two fields goals in the fourth quarter collapse. Haejun Park made 5 points, while Rommel Usi had 4, and two more Saipan Vegas players were held to one basket each. Ernie Moises, who logged 16 points after three quarters, was scoreless in the fourth.

Usi and Moises teamed up for Saipan Vegas in the first quarter with the former recording 9 points and the latter adding 7 for their 20-16 lead.

In the second period, Islander managed to force a deadlock, 32-all, behind the 10 first-half points of John Calbone and Olan Tengco’s 8 markers. Then in the third quarter, Saipan Vegas regained the lead with Moises scoring 7 points and getting enough help from his teammates.

However, Moises was silent in the final canto and Saipan Vegas went on to drop its debut game.
