- GREEN GALA DONOR: With its donation of executive room stays and spa packages, the Mariana Resort and Spa recently became a major sponsor of the Green Gala, the Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance’s signature fundraising event. The event raises critical funds for important environmental and conservation projects and activities. The Gala will be held on Friday, Sept. 19, 2014 at the Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan. - SNORKEL LESSONS: Several children and even a few adults join the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality’s second free CNMI Snorkels event at the Kilili Beach Park in Susupe. BECQ partnered with Let’s Move Marianas and Mariana Islands Nature Alliance in an event that saw children snorkeling toward the submerged World War II Sherman tank in the beach’s water. (Dennis B. - VISITING PALAU LAWMAKERS Six lawmakers of Palau’s House of Delegates, led by Delegate Lucio Ngiraiwet, pose with members of the CNMI House of Representatives for a group photo on Capital Hill Thursday. - HY MANHOBEN GROUP HELPS OUT : The Hofschneider/Yumul Manhoben took part in the 29th Annual BECQ International Coastal Cleanup by helping the community pick trash at the Chalan Kanoa Cemetery Saturday, Sept. 27. The group of 20 people braved the heat collecting about 300 lbs of trash Saturday morning. The International Coastal Cleanup saw volunteers pick up trash Friday afternoon and Saturday morning throughout the island. The event is a part of the Let’s Move Marianas Campaign. - CEMETERY CLEANUP: Two JROTC units—the Kagman High School Ayuyu Battalion and the Saipan Southern High School Manta Rays Battalion—teamed up on Saturday, Sept. 27, to put a big dent on the Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery cleanup for the All Souls Day this November. A total of 110 JROTC cadets participated in this event to beautify the largest cemetery on Saipan. Two truckloads of trash were collected and the cleanup took almost four hours to complete. (Contributed Photo)
