- IN THE SPOTLIGHT-Olympio “Oly” Magofna, from Tanapag on Saipan in the CNMI, has been the emergency management officer of Commander, Fleet Activities Okinawa since joining CFAO in July 2016. As EMO he is responsible for the establishment, implementation, and sustainment of a comprehensive all-hazard emergency management program in order to prepare for and mitigate the potential effects of, respond to, and recover from natural or man-made emergencies impacting CFAO and its tenant commands spread out over Okinawa. - TREVALLY DERBY WINNER Raffy Panelo, a Mobil Oil Marianas tanker driver, won the Kristo Rai Trevally Hunters Derby after catching a 6.6-lb trevally, also known as talakitok, at a beach near the Carolinian Utt in Garapan. Derby coordinator Carlos Ballesteros awarded Panelo $700 in cash prize, $50 in gift certificates, and $115 worth of gifts. It was the sixth fishing day of the friendly competition that started last Feb. 1. For the second successive Sunday, Panelo joined the event that drew a record 73 entries. The derby will resume this coming Sunday for the second and third prize pot money, plus other gifts at the Pakpak Beach in San Antonio. (Ferdie De La Torre)

- MHS DONATION The Saipan Teen Unity Leos Club donated sanitary items to Marianas High School last Wednesday, March 10, 2021. The group donated paper towels, tissues, and hand sanitizers for the school. This service was led by Saipan Teen Unity Leos Club president Victoria Ancheta, Saipan Unity Lions Club president Alicia Barbo, and FVDG Lion Atoy Banting. - COLLISSION AT QUARTERMASTER-A white sedan with a severely damaged bumper is seen being towed away at the Quartermaster Road intersection. At left, a black pickup truck can be seen also being towed away with a damaged rear. This photo was taken early afternoon yesterday, just moments after the car collision between the white sedan and black pickup truck occurred. - CAMP TINIAN-Construction Electrician Constructionman Jose Silva, assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 4, wires electrical lines providing power to berthing buildings on Camp Tinian to test electrical receptacles. The camp will support future Naval Construction Force and U.S. Marine Corps operations on Tinian. NMCB-4 is forward deployed throughout the Indo-Pacific region and United States ready to support major combat operations, theater security, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations. The visit included a tour of the different sites of where new buildings will be constructed. The campus visit included a tour of recently-renovated spaces and the Cooperative Research, Extension, and Education Service agricultural experiment station in As Perdido. - EDUCATION TALKS-The CNMI Senate Committee on Health, Welfare, and Education, which is chaired by Sen. Justo Quitugua (R-Saipan), recently visited the Northern Marianas College and met with NMC interim president Frankie Eliptico and members of the college’s leadership team. The discussion focused on updates with the college’s spring semester, accreditation, and the new facilities that will be built on the As Terlaje campus. In photo with Eliptico are Sens.
