- MASS WEDDING-Thirteen couples from different parishes on Saipan were married last Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, during a group wedding at Mt. Carmel Cathedral. Bishop Ryan P. - DRUG COURT-Last Dec. 21 marked the first year anniversary of the CNMI Drug Court that was made possible through the efforts of the three branches of the CNMI government—Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary. According to Superior Court Associate Judge Teresa K. Kim-Tenorio, the drug court has 38 participants to date. In her message, she said the success of the Drug Court would not be possible without the community “It takes the entire community to support and everybody has stepped up. I fell in love with this program of helping people live healthier and lead better lives and would like to thank all the stakeholders who have participated to make it all possible.” (Bea Cabrera)
- NEW EXPERIENCE-“The local community is starting to experience craft beer. They start with something light and slowly transitioning to other flavors. Now, people are coming in asking for recommendations,” said Franken Brau president and co-founder Bruno Doetsch. (Bea Cabrera)

- DONATION The Division of Youth Services recently received a $5,000 donation from the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort for the Kagman Community Center. The purpose of the donation was to give back to the community by assisting with the operational needs of the center. KCC currently runs an after-school program and several parent education classes and sessions throughout the week. The center is also made available to community agencies and schools that need the venue to sponsor or co-sponsor community events. The donation will be used to cover ground maintenance and cleaning services to ensure health and safety for all its participants. (Contributed Photo)

- THANK YOU The DCCA Division of Youth Services received over 500 gifts this past holiday season from the Salvation Army to be disseminated to Saipan, Tinian, and Rota children currently being served under the Child Protective Services, Parents Anonymous, Inc. Children’s Program, Kagman Community Center, and the Tanapag Youth Center. The Salvation Army has been running toy drives for the past five years to bring extra smiles to the children served by DYS. DYS has been blessed to have forged this partnership with the Salvation Army in reaching out and making a difference in the lives of children and families during the holidays. (Contributed Photo)
- ARCHIVAL TREASURES Edward DLG. Pangelinan, chairman of the Marianas Political Status Commission, recently visited the CNMI archives at Northern Marianas College with former governor Juan N. Babauta. As the Marianas Political Status Commission chair, Pangelinan played an instrumental role in establishing the CNMI. In this photo, Pangelinan stands behind the original copy of the Covenant to Establish [the] Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in Political Union with the United States of America. Next to the Covenant is a letter signed jointly by Pangelinan and Vicente N. Santos, president of the Mariana Islands District Legislature, thanking President Gerald Ford following the Covenant’s signing. - KOREAN VISITORS The Saipan Mayor’s Office presents Korean exchange students with certificates of appreciation last Thursday after the group did a beach cleanup on Saipan. A group of 51 exchange students from South Korea visited the Saipan Mayor’s Office and were presented with the appreciation certificates. - RIGOROUS SCREENING Passengers of an HK Express flight from Hong Kong to Saipan undergo final inspection before boarding the plane. This inspection is different from the airport’s already rigorous immigration and security inspection. Last year, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration required airlines to execute a thorough security check on passengers bound for the U.S. via low cost carriers through screening and interview.
