- CONTINUING EDUCATION Dr. Philip Dauterman, center, of the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. is presented with a training certificate for “dangerous goods shipping” on Aug. 7 by Dr. Rebecca Sciulli and Dr. Mark Nagata of the Hawaii State Department of Health. - BACK-TO-SCHOOL DRIVE The CHCC Employees Association conducted their own back-to-school drive to help with the children that come and visit the Children’s Clinic. The school supplies were put in a bin and were dropped off at the Children’s Clinic for their patients to choose from. Another two boxes were donated to Karidat’s Guma’ Esperansa to assist the families on checking off their back-to-school necessities. - KONFITMA EXERCISE-Police officers prepare to “storm” a former juvenile detention facility in Kagman as part of the Konfitma 24-hour exercise that started Wednesday. The team was responding to a “suspected chemical laboratory operated by terrorists.” (Jon Perez)
- POLICE ACADEMY TRAINING-Northern Marianas College and the Department of Public Safety recently signed a memorandum of agreement to commence the police academy training cycle for Tinian. Overall, this will be the 24th police cycle in the CNMI and there are 16 cadets enlisted for the Tinian cohort. The academy will begin on Aug. 20, 2018, and will require the cadets to successfully pass 13 courses that are under the college’s Basic Law Enforcement Certificate Program. Seven of these courses will be taught on Saipan and six will be taught on Tinian. Upon completion, the cadets will earn 39 college credits. This partnership is made possible by NMC, Office of the Mayor of Tinian, and the Department of Public Safety. (NMC)
- CAR FIRE Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services Hazmat Unit members contain the fire that engulfed a car in the parking lot of ChaCha Ocean View Middle School in Kagman as part of the 24-hour, full-scale all-hazard Konfitma exercise last week. The scenario was that the car, which was left unattended in the parking lot, had unknown substance. While assessing the vehicle, it caught on fire. (Derek Gersonde)

- NEW LION’S CLUB The newly officers of the Saipan Centennial Lion’s Club are inducted at the Kanoa Resort Saipan in Susupe last Sunday. The new officers are Charter president Arceli Lizama and vice presidents Jasminda Guiao and Ruth Reyes.
