- NMC, DFEMS COLLABORATION-Cadets of the Department of Fire and Emergency Management Service’s 12th Fire Cycle Academy pose for a photo in front of the Capitol Hill Fire Station/Training Center. For the second year in a row, the academy involved collaboration between Northern Marianas College and DFEMS. As part of the collaboration, the graduating cadets will be receiving their Certificates of Completion of in Fire Science Technology from NMC, which includes 38 college credits that can be used toward their college degree. - JROTC SPRING BREAK CAMP-A total of 124 cadets took part in the CNMI JROTC Spring Break Camp held last March 23-26 at the Kagman High School. JROTC programs from five schools—Rota, Marianas, Tinian, Kagman, and Saipan Southern high schools—took part in the camp that had participants undergo military style leadership training and friendly competition. - CAR CRASH-A police officer watches as a towing company crew hooks a cable to pull out a car that fell into a ditch on the side of Monsignor Guerrero Road across the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s water tank near the Northern Marianas College last Saturday morning. The male driver was injured during the accident. The car was heading down the hill when another vehicle apparently suddenly cut the outer lane. The driver lost control, causing the car to turn 180 degrees and fall into the ditch. (Ferdie de la Torre)
- TOP MODELS-Mazie Anne Manalang and Yads Guzman are named 2018’s Marianas Next Top Model during the Saipan Unity Lion’s Club’s Marianas Next Top Model pageant last Sunday at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan. (Kimberly A. Bautista)
- FLAME TREE ARTS FESTIVAL STARTS-The Department of Public Safety posts the colors as dignitaries and community members sing the national anthem during the opening ceremony of the 37th Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival at the Civic Center. - PIC DONATION Pacific Islands Club Saipan recently donated $1,000 to the Northern Marianas College. PIC’s contribution will help the college to advance its mission of providing quality academic programs, student services, and facilities for its students. - REAR ENDED-A police officer checks a bicycle that is still embedded in the front left fender of a sports utility vehicle during an accident on the southbound lane of Beach Road in Garapan last Saturday morning. The SUV rear ended the bicycle. The cyclist was injured and taken by an ambulance to the Commonwealth Health Center. No other details were available yet. (BILL BEZZANT)
