Training in conjunction with hard work and discipline is the foundation of developing knowledgeable employees who are skillful in providing excellent customer service within the hospitality industry.
Imperial Pacific International’s Corporate Learning and Development is committed to providing quality training for all colleagues. Each training is designed to build the skills and knowledge of each employee through courses relative to individual and departmental growth.
Jerry Young, director – Learning & Development of Imperial Pacific International (CNMI), LLC, explains, “Our programs are designed to meet the specific needs of an individual’s job requirements and are intended for development throughout each colleague’s career with the company. Our goal is to continue to create programs aimed to meet each colleague’s needs so they can perform their job effectively. Their success is our success.”
IPI’s Corporate Learning and Development Department launched their Image Building and Personal Branding training in February, with 31 employees eager to learn more about enhancing the quality of their look and personal brand within the workplace.
The training is a two-part course created to educate colleagues on the importance of projecting a professional appearance and presenting a positive attitude when dealing with guests. Basic hygiene expectations; proper uniform; body language do’s and don’ts; effective verbal and nonverbal communication; resolving conflict; and a how-to guide when doing hair and makeup were a few of the topics discussed throughout the four-hour training.
Island Training Solution’s owner Jim Arenovski conducted the first segment of the training, sharing how an individual’s image—our core values, vision and mission—go hand-in-hand with developing a professional and positive personal brand.
“The aim of the training is to motivate the participants to take control of their career by making positive decisions and taking actions that will position themselves to be the best at what they do and for those actions to be noticed by those who count at work,” said Arenovski. “We spoke of investing time to develop themselves personally and professionally, allowing them to rise to the challenges of the business. We also suggested to them to use social media carefully and to promote their successes and accomplishments, rather than to just connect with friends.”
The second segment of the training involved a hands-on basic makeup and hair demonstration conducted by IPI Corporate Learning and Development supervisor Monique Sablan. An array of makeup and hair products were provided for the female participants, who were able to practice each step performed by the trainer.
“It was very exciting to be able to share my makeup and hair-care knowledge and skills with our female colleagues. The whole intent of the tutorial was not to alter the way they look, but to enhance their natural beauty and promote self-confidence,” said Sablan. “Many of these ladies are guest-contact colleagues and it was a great experience being able to provide them with the proper training necessary for them to look and feel their best in the workplace.”
IPI Food & Beverage assistant manager Marria Elezabeth Cauagdan expressed great appreciation for what she and her colleagues learned.
“The instructor was really good in explaining how image branding is important not only to yourself, but to the company as well. He also explained that how you present yourself, how you interact with people, and the way you build your image is what makes you who you are,” said Cauagdan. “My favorite part was the make-up and hair session. Thanks to the trainer, we were able to follow an easy step-by-step procedure on how to apply make-up properly and different ways to style our hair. Everything was provided for us to practice with and we all had so much fun doing it.”
The IPI Corporate Learning and Development Department will continue to strive to provide quality, professional, helpful and effective training for all colleagues as the company continues to expand. (IPI)
