The 3rd Annual International Festival of Cultures will be held every Saturday evenings on Saipan beginning on Sept. 2, 2017, at a new location, Garapan Fishing Base.
The festival celebrates the cultural diversity of the Marianas, with special emphasis on the indigenous cultures of Micronesia.
The Marianas Visitors Authority is seeking representative groups of different cultures to participate in planning for the event. Interested groups must submit a participation form by next June 9 at the MVA office in San Jose. Representative groups may contact MVA Community Projects coordinator Janerlinse Seman Sablanat at jsablan@mymarianas.com or 664-3210 for more information.
“The Marianas is wonderful community of ethnic diversity, and the International Festival of Cultures gives us the chance to come together and share the beauty of that with our visitors,” said MVA Community Projects manager Martin Duenas. “We are once again inviting all cultural groups represented in the Northern Marianas, whether big or small, to be a part of this year’s festival by contacting our office.”
In particular the MVA is hoping to hear from the communities of Micronesia, Russia, India, Pakistan, and Nepal. Also slated to participate are the communities of Korea, China, Japan, Chamorro, Carolinian, Samoa, Fiji, Tonga, Hawaii, Marshalls, Palau, Bangladesh, and the Philippines.
The festival will include cultural demonstrations, arts and crafts, food sales, and live cultural entertainment. This year’s festival will also feature a new time of 5pm to 9pm. Admission is free. (MVA)
