Int’l Coastal Cleanup on Nov. 14

Share

Saipan will be participating in the 30th Annual International Coastal Cleanup, joining the global community to work toward trash-free seas by coordinating beach cleanups all over the CNMI islands. Rota and Tinian ICC took place on Sept. 20, 2015. Due to Typhoon Soudelor, Saipan’s ICC is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015.

Last year the CNMI had 1,347 participants pick up 17,765 lbs of trash that included plastic bags, straw wrappers, and cigarette butts. This year we are aiming to increase the number of participants across the islands.

The Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality is encouraging businesses, organizations, clubs, and individuals to spend a few hours cleaning up trash from our land, waterways, and oceans. We invite you to sign up for the event and volunteer to clean up or host a cleanup with our help. To sign up or for further information, contact ICC Saipan coordinator Jihan Buniag at 664-8500.
