Interscholastic sports for SY 2022-2023 back in session

With schools back in session for school year 2022-2023, the long awaited and always exciting school sports, which are high school volleyball, co-ed elementary soccer, and all schools cross country are now back as well.
Middle school boys’ soccer and middle school girls’ basketball schedules have yet to be determined.
Yesterday was the start of the girls’ high school volleyball at the Marianas High School Gymnasium. The majority of the games will be played at the MHS Gym with some games at the Koblerville Gymnasium.
A total of 68 volleyball games will be played throughout the school year, with the varsity double-elimination tournament to start on Oct. 20 at 4pm. On Oct. 21, it will start at 4pm as well, and on Oct. 22, it will start at 10am for tournament continuation, and 12pm will be the championships.
Grace Christian Academy, Marianas High School, Saipan International School, Mount Carmel School, Saipan Southern High School, Agape Christian School, Kagman High School, Dr. Rita Hocog Inos High School, and Tinian High School will all vie for the junior varsity and junior varsity championships.
The four games played last night were Saipan Southern High School vs. Marianas High School junior varsity team, Kagman High School vs. Mount Carmel School junior varsity team, SSHS vs. Grace Christian Academy varsity team, and Marianas High School vs. Saipan International School varsity team.
The co-ed elementary soccer is under the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association or NMIFA, the all schools cross country is under the Northern Marianas Athletics or NMA, and the girls high school volleyball is under the Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association or NMIVA.
The Public School System Athletic Program is once again helping coordinate all school sports this school year.
