The Marianas Visitors Authority’s 5th Annual International Festival of Cultures drew hundreds of revelers to Paseo de Marianas pedestrian mall in Saipan on Oct. 20-21, 2019.
The festival celebrated the ethnic diversity of The Marianas a Parade of Cultures, live ethnic performances, culinary sales, cultural demonstrations, and sales of art and crafts. Rain showers blew past to make way for the opening of the festival with the Parade of Cultures on Friday night, featuring walking groups showcasing their traditional attire from the Pacific, Asia, and beyond along Beach Road.
Returning to this year’s celebration were the communities of Japan, Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, China, The Marianas, Bangladesh, and the Korean Cultural Center.
“We would like to thank our cultural groups for once again partnering with the MVA on making this annual celebration, possible for our visitors and community to enjoy,” said MVA Community Projects manager Martin Duenas. “We are pleased we were able to push forward with the festival again this year, especially during the weekend of charter flights from Japan. It was a great opportunity to showcase the diversity of our community, and we thank our supporters, and participants. We would like to also thank our sponsors Kinpachi for our stage and the Commonwealth Office of Transit Authority in providing shuttle services to and from American Memorial Park and the festival venue.”
The International Festival of Cultures is organized annually by the MVA in September. (PR)
