The Northern Mariana Islands College Sport will be holding the International Day of University Sports on Monday, Sept. 20 at the Oleai Sports Complex track and field.

The annual celebration, which started in 2016, is the brainchild of the International University Sports Federation and endorsed by the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization to promote sports, health and wellness, and community engagement among college students and other stakeholders.

“NMICS in association with FISU, NMSA, and NMC will be hosting its second annual International Day of University Sports celebration alongside over 100 other countries. We will have soccer, volleyball, football ball toss, and other sports. The goal is to get as many college students participating in sports as possible,” said Denis Myers, who leads NMI’s FISU program and is the health and physical education instructor at the NMC.

The event will run from 4pm to 6pm with the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association, NMC Volleyball Club, and Saipan Ultimate Frisbee assisting in the activities.

Meanwhile, the Oleai track oval will be closed for public use on Monday from 3pm onwards to give way to the International Day of University Sports event. (PR)
