Gov. Eloy S. Inos and Lt. Gov. Jude U. Hofschneider jointly signed the 2014 Marianas March Against Cancer proclamation at the Bank of Guam in Garapan yesterday morning.
Inos and Hofschneider proclaimed April 27 to May 3 as Marianas March Against Cancer Week, to educate the community about cancer and the need for research funding, early detection methods, effective treatments and prevention programs, and how “cancer can be beaten.”
“I’d like to congratulate the board, volunteers, donors, and hosts for keeping up with the annual event and their continuous support,” Inos said.
The MMAC was first established in 2002, with the first event held in 2003. Back then, it was called “Relay for Life.”
Manny Borja, the 2014 MMAC overall chair, noted, however, that unlike Relay for Life, funds raised during the MMAC remain within the CNMI. “Funds are transferred to the CCA, which implements the programs for cancer support within the CNMI,” he added.
The proclamation signing was witnessed by Commonwealth Cancer Association board members, sponsors, committees, and team members.
