Inos funeral early next week

Following a meeting yesterday morning to plan the funeral of the late governor Eloy S. Inos, press secretary Ivan Blanco said that officials met to discuss logistics for the late governor’s arrival at the Francisco C. Ada International Airport.

“We are still set for Jan. 8; around 3:05pm is the touchdown,” Blanco said.

Cabinet members and Inos’ family are expected to be at the arrival area, Blanco said, and they expect heads of other government branches to be at the airport as well.

The Department of Public Safety will designate parking areas on the sides of the airport if the public wishes to stand by the road as Inos’ remains are taken to the Borja Funeral Homes, where he will rest until the time of his funeral service, Blanco said.

While an official date has not been announced, the administration is planning a state viewing of the late governor and funeral early next week, administration officials said. A state funeral, as announced earlier, is expected to not go through, reportedly due to the late governor’s wishes.

Lt. Gov. Victor Hocog told reporters yesterday they are focusing on the services and have been in discussion with the Inos family. “We still don’t know yet if we are going to execute a state funeral or a memorial service. We have to respect the family’s wishes,” he added.

Blanco said that Guam Gov. Eddie Calvo would be arriving on Saipan on Monday night. The vice president of the Federated States of Micronesia will also be attending Inos’ funeral services, Blanco said, and he has heard word that officials from several U.S. military branches have expressed their desire to attend.
