Inos backs two Rotary Club projects

Gov. Eloy S. Inos assured the Rotary Club of Saipan yesterday of his support for the club’s two projects: the revival of a dental clinic on Rota and the creation of a Kagman Healthy Living Family Park.

Inos, who was the guest speaker of the Rotary’s meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan yesterday, noted that Rota currently has no dentist or dental clinic and that residents are forced to travel to nearby islands such as Guam and Saipan to receive dental care.

Rotary, in partnership with their new sister club, the Rotary Club of Tokyo Atago, took the lead early this year in reviving the dental clinic on Rota by providing equipment and renovating the building.

Inos also addressed the Kagman park project that Rotary had been working on. He said he will ask the Department of Public Lands to convey the property to the Office of the Governor, which will then pave the way for the possible signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Kagman community for park’s maintenance.

The Rotary’s new president, Richard Cody, said the governor’s support is good, because both projects need the government to be involved.

Cody said before Rotary can do anything on the equipment for the Rota Smiles project, the dental clinic needs to be renovated.

“We only can do what we have on our part, which is the equipment. It’s good that he is here and we had this opportunity to brief him on what needs to be done for us to get our part done,” Cody said.

“The projects are still in the early stages and we have had three years for funding for Las Vegas Night to set aside $5,000 for the Kagman Park each year and we can start construction after Inos does what he says,” Cody said.
