Individual arrested for alleged disturbance
On Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at about 1:23pm, the CNMI Department of Public Safety received a 911 call reporting harassment of a staff member of the Downtown Market in San Jose, Saipan. Police units that were dispatched to the scene met with the caller, who stated that the male individual that was harassing them had just left the store on foot and described the individual as bald, heavyset, wearing a pair of short pants and a red striped shirt. The officer notified dispatch and shortly after another unit spotted the suspect not too far from the scene.
The suspect was quickly identified from previous cases as Ryan Pua. The victim also positively identified Pua, and Pua was restrained.
In an interview with the victim, he stated that Pua walked into the store and began asking the victim, who was stacking some items in the store, what was his race. The victim continued with what he was doing. Shortly after, Pua asked the victim, “You like I beat you up? I’m going to beat you up.” The victim quickly made his way to a phone and dialed 911 as the suspect made his way to the alcohol section. The suspect then walked back toward the victim and stood less than a foot from the victim and asked, “Why is the beer so expensive?” At this time the victim was on the phone with dispatch. Pua quickly left the store on foot before the officers arrived.
When later confronted, Pua told officers that he did not do anything wrong and spat inside the patrol vehicle and toward the officers.
At about 1:39pm, Pua was arrested and cleared at Kanoa Resort before being transported to the Department of Corrections where he was booked and detained. (PR)
