The Ohala Foundation will be hosting the inaugural Spirit of Ohala Island Run on May 7, 2021. The run will be a self-paced, open walk or run of either 5K, 10K, Half Marathon ,or Full Marathon.
“This event will further our efforts to support one of our goals of purchasing food for our food-box distributions to families with financial challenges,” Ohala chair Phillip Mendiola-Long said.
Registration fee is $49 in which 100% of the funds raised will go toward these food-box supplies. Entrants can choose the length of their walk/run, where to run and the length of time to complete it. When runners complete their registered distance, they will be asked to submit a photo of their distance on any runner’s application in which steps or distance is measured.
Upon verification of the distance, via the photo evidence submitted, the runner will be sent a very large (2.75×3.00 inches) and stunning metallic medal with lanyard depicting the distance completed. Runners will be asked to pay a small shipping and handling fee of $9.95 for shipping U.S. Domestic and $19.95 for international shipments so that the medal can arrive within three weeks after completing the walk/run.
“This is a unique approach to a popular event with the current times in mind. We encourage everyone to join in, support a great cause and earn a medal for their efforts. Finish your target distance, time and location of your choosing. Not only will you be supporting a great cause, you’ll be united with runners and walkers all over the world as you all share the thrill of crossing the finish line and earning your unique and amazing medal. Start a collection or add to an existing one. Our creative team spent many hours designing this custom medal and ribbon that reflects our islands, our mission, and this unique event.” Mendiola -Long added.

Guided by the principles that man must help his fellow man, the Ohala Foundation’s mission is to work exhaustively to raise critically needed funds; and serve as the managing body for a Mariana Islands-based community assistance organization. The cornerstone of that organization is the Ohala Food Bank, which under the Ohala Foundation’s leadership, provides free food, free meals, and free disaster food assistance to those who are the most vulnerable in our communities. The Foundation also offers career, medical and clothing services.
