The National Weather Service forecasts that the tropical disturbance brewing off the coast of Kosrae will pass near the Marianas chain of islands this week.

According to a craft advisory from the National Weather Service on Tiyan, Guam, northeast winds of 20 to 25 knots are expected through most of the week and winds will increase by the weekend as the tropical disturbance passes.

Fresh to strong northeast trade winds will continue to be hazardous for small craft through the week. Seas will increase to hazardous levels.

Seas of 7 to 9 feet will increase to hazardous levels of 8 to 10 feet and are expected to increase further by the weekend as the tropical disturbance passes.

The tropical disturbance was located about 235 miles southeast of Kosrae at around 12pm yesterday and is the subject of a tropical cyclone formation alert by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center.

The disturbance is moving west at around 10 mph.

The disturbance is expected to continue moving westward through this week before turning west-northwest around Thursday. Slow development is expected over the next several days. This will cause the fresh to strong winds and showery weather near Kosrae to spread.

Rainfall of 2 to 4 inches is likely across the region for the next few days.

If the disturbance develops faster than expected, stronger winds and larger rainfall amounts would be expected across Chuuk and Pohnpei.
