Without explaining his reason, Gov. Arnold I. Palacios has withdrawn his appointment of former Retirement Fund board member Rosa L. Igitol to the Marianas Visitors Authority board of directors.

On the other hand, Palacios recently nominated Juan Aschingtip Taisakan Iguel to the CNMI Cannabis Commission, representing Saipan and Northern Islands.

Palacios informed Senate President Edith E. DeLeon Guerrero (D-Saipan) on Monday that he is withdrawing Igitol’s appointment at this time, but did not indicate his reason. He apologized for any convenience this may have caused DeLeon Guerrero and other senators.

Palacios nominated Igitol to the MVA board, representing Saipan, last Feb. 23.

DeLeon Guerrero has already notified Sen. Celina R. Babauta (D-Saipan) of the governor’s decision. Babauta chairs the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations.

As for Iguel’s nomination, Palacios said that, if confirmed, Iguel will serve the remaining term vacated by Valentino N. Taisacan Jr. which will expire on Sept. 11, 2025. Iguel’s appointment requires the advice and consent of the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation.
