‘Iakopo is next MVA chief’

Former Commonwealth Health Care Corp. chief financial officer Priscilla Iakopo will be appointed as the next Marianas Visitors Authority managing director, according to a source yesterday.

As of press time yesterday, Saipan Tribune was still waiting for MVA board chair Marian Aldan-Pierce’s response to a request for comments about the appointment of the managing director.

Iakopo was hired as CFO of CHCC, then was subsequently assigned to CHCC’s procurement office.

It was not immediately clear if she has a prior background in the tourism industry.

Christopher Attao Concepcion resigned as managing director last March 12. When Concepcion’s last day of office took effect last April 12, Aldan-Pierce appointed MVA deputy managing director Judy C. Torres as acting MVA chief.

Iakopo’s ascent as MVA chief will come at a challenging time, with the CNMI rebuilding the Japan market with the entry of Skymark Airlines, the weakened Korea market, which suffered after the CNMI figured in international news in the wake of Super Typhoon Yutu in October last year, and a comparatively weaker China market.
