Son Hyun duplicated her win in last month’s September tourney after winning the CNMI Women’s Golf Association’s October Ace of the Month Tournament last Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.

While it’s unusual for the golfer with the lowest gross score to win the monthly tournament, the Seoul, South Korea native actually turned the trick with Hyun topping the competition with her net score of 76. The 6-handicapper finished with a gross score of 82 following a 40 in the front nine and a 42 in the back nine.

“I didn’t know I would win because my handicap was so low, but I’m so happy to win. I’m so thankful and happy for my group (CWGA),” said Hyun, who started playing golf in 2006.

Sherlyn Jones finished runner-up after the 11-handicapper carded a net 78 built around a gross of 89 (44-45), while completing the Top 3 was Jang Eun Ae, who fired a net 79. She finished with a gross of 98 after the 19-handicapper went 53 in the first nine holes and 45 in the back nine.

Hyun posted her first win in the CWGA season after winning the club’s September ace last Sept. 18 at the Coral Ocean Resort in Agingan.

A total of 143 women took part in CWGA’s October tournament. The rest of the players, with their net scores in parenthesis, are as follows: Lorraine Babauta (80), Yi Su Jeong (81), Nirimai Koebel (82), Rose Rohinger (82), Chang Eun Ae (82), Yuko Togawa (83), Sae Hee Kim (84), Terry Guerrero (84), Kyunga Park (85), Kim Sae Hee (89), and Lou Kim (94).
