Hyun Son tops July CWGA tourney

Hyun “Sunny” Son was in tune to win the CNMI Women’s Golf Association’s July monthly tournament last Saturday, June 8, at LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort east course.
The 55-year-old owner Boss Karaoke shot a net score of 72 following a gross of 87. The 15-handicapper came away with a 43 in the front nine and a 44 in the back nine.
“I want to share my victory with our CWGA members. And playing with my best friend, Yuko Togawa, helped me a lot because I was able to play with a stable and enjoyable mind,” said Son.
She said her best hole was hole No. 1.
“The first hole was good only in this tournament because it was a difficult hole for me, but I started with a par.”
As for playing conditions, she said the weather was wonderful because it was not too hot, even though they were expecting some rain.

The Seoul, South Korea native has been playing golf for the past 18 years since.
Last month’s winner, Flor Jones, finished runner-up this time after coming a stroke short with her net 73 built around a 47-45 in the front and back nines for a gross of 92 for the 19-handicapper.
Completing the Top 3 was Sae Hee Kim with her net 74 after she fired a gross of 86. The 13-handicapper had a split of 44-42 in front and back nines.
A total of eight CWGA members took part in the CNMI Women’s Golf Association’s July monthly tournament. The rest of the field, with their net scores, in parenthesis are as follows: Yuko Togawa (77), Doll Yamagishi (81), Janet Torres (83), Lorraine Babauta (86), and Clara Chang (92).
