Team captain Sajet Hussain scattered 22 points to power Hyatt Regency Saipan to an 83-59 upset win over top seed Fiesta Resort as the playoffs of the 2014 Budweiser Inter-Hotel Basketball League continued Tuesday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Hussain pumped in 13 of his total offensive output in the third quarter as he helped the defending champions break away from a 31-all halftime tally.

Hyatt outscored Fiesta Resort in the third, 24-15, to take a 55-46 spread entering the final canto and was never threatened after that.

They continued with their hot shooting in the fourth to finally silence their opponents and in the process boost their chances of clinching one of the four semifinals berths.

Gino Libow backed up Hussain with 19 points, while Lauron Lim and Jun Alipio added 13 and 11 markers, respectively.

Hyatt needs to win one more game in order to strengthen its chances of joining World Resort and Shirley’s to the winner’s bracket.

Elmer Esdrelon collected 22 points, while Lerio Pagarao chipped in 18 for Fiesta Resort, which dropped to the loser’s bracket and must not lose its next game in order to bolster its Final Four chances.

In the second game, Pacific Islands Club had six players finishing in double figures in a 106-37 mangling of Mariana Resort and Spa.

PIC capitalized on Mariana Resort’s sluggish start to immediately put some distance against their opponents after 10 minutes of play, 22-13.

PIC never slowed down after that and coupled with Mariana Resort’s spate of errors, enjoyed a 46-20 halftime advantage after holding its opponents to only 7 points in the second period.

From there, PIC just coasted to the easy victory dumping 60 points in the final half while limiting Mariana Resort to 17.

Fred Remillosa paced PIC with 20 markers, while getting ample support from Jack Aranda and Jun Del Rosario, who combined for 30 points.

Bryl Alegre and Bart Demapan finished with 13 points each, while James Abuy contributed 12 more.

Jaysan Gatdula was the lone bright spot for Mariana Resort with 11 points as no other player finished in double figures.

Fiesta and Marianas Resort join Kanoa Resort at the loser’s bracket in the double-elimination round playoffs.
