Hyatt employees donate toys

Employees of Hyatt Regency Saipan chipped in to buy toys that they later donated to the Guma Esperanza for distribution to children under its care.
Last Thursday, Hyatt employees loaded a van full of toys that would go to the children of women who live or have recently left the Guma Esperanza shelter.
The Guma Esperanza is a temporary shelter for domestic violence victims. The shelter is a branch of Karidat Social Services.
According to Hyatt Regency Human Resources director Josephine Mesta, over 100 toys were donated Thursday. “These are all provided by [Hyatt] employees out of their own pocket,” she said.
Metsa said that Hyatt’s staff has been donating toys to the shelter for over six year now.
“Despite the recent typhoon, the staff were still very anxious and enthusiastic about bringing in the gifts for the kids…the staff is very generous. They actually get excited every year. They come first to HR to find out when we’re going to do it,” she said.
Guma Esperanza supervisor Lisa Ada said: “…We always look forward to…deliver[ing] the gifts to the kids because we don’t tell them they have gifts…The kids are usually very happy. Sometimes they even cry,” she said.
Ada said that all the children of women currently or were previously in the Guma Esperanza will receive gifts. Guma Esperanza staff will personally deliver them.
