Hustlers, Voyagers rule 8-Ball league
The Route33 Armatech Hustlers and the Jokers IT&E Voyagers ruled their respective divisions in the season-ending Budweiser Open 8-Ball League held in various bars last week.
The Hustlers scored a 9-5 win over the Smoke Pub Magic 8 Ball to top the Thursday league, while the Voyagers clinched the Tuesday crown after a masterful 9-2 trouncing of the Smoke Pub Saipan TV Hustlers.
Senen Pangilinan and Jerry Soriano opened up Route33’s title campaign by beating the Magic 8 Ball duo of Rodel Dela Cruz and Rey Hermogenes, while Simon Kapileo and Robert Sanciangco made it 2-0 after downing Rick Elefante and Chester Cuento in the two partner’s 8-Ball matches.
The Hustlers went up 4-0 after Soriano and Oscar Sablan scored wins over Rico Montano and Hermogenes, respectively. Elefante, Dela Cruz and Cuento put the Magic 8 Ball on the scoreboard following victories over Pangilinan, Sanciangco and Kapileo.
The Dela Cruz and Hermogenes tandem leveled things up after beating Soriano and Pangilinan, but the Hustlers won’t be denied of the win as they topped five of the six remaining matches to claim the title.
The Hustlers are already seeded in the Budweiser Cup when they host the Magic 8 Ball on Thursday. The other pairings are between the Jokers Homeboyz and Wild Bills; National Alamo Car Rental and Poseidon Titans; and Jonny’s Team SCS and Barcode Breakers.
The Homeboyz clinched third place after escaping with a 9-8 win over Wild Bill’s. Rolly Villanueva and Nolan Cultura, from an 8-all count, delivered the final win for the Homeboyz after beating Juancho Mendoza and Nong Detdon in the final partner’s 8-Ball event.
In the Tuesday league, the Voyagers were merciless in drubbing the Hustlers. Mark Butac, Brian Nelvis, and R.J. Mascarinas delivered the wins for the Voyagers in the race-to-9 contest.
The Shooters bagged the third place honors after a 9-0 shutout decision over Jonny’s Crazy 8. (Jon Perez)
