The Hustlers and the Magic 8 Ball scored contrasting 9-6 wins over the Poseidon Titans and Wild Bills, respectively, in the final elimination round match to end up 1-2 in the standings.
Route33 had the best record at 126-84, followed closely by the Smoke Pub-backed squad’s 125-85. The Hustlers will host the Magic 8 Ball in the finals set for Dec. 3.
The Titans, in their match against the Hustlers, nearly scored an upset as they enjoyed a 5-3 advantage after the first singles of the second set of 5 singles matches.
Randy Sablan tripped Senen Pangilinan to give Poseidon the lead, but the Titans floundered down the stretch as the Hustlers won six of the last seven matches.
Smoke Pub had a different result, as it won its match up against Wild Bills after the final match of the second set of Singles 8 Ball games.
Holding on to a 7-4 edge, Rodel Dela Cruz defeated Warlee Ellama to seal the win. Wild Bills won two of the last three matches for the final tally.
All 15 games—two sets of five games in the singles and five doubles—must be played since each win counts on the 8-team standings.
The Jokers Homboyz (122-88) and Wild Bills (111-99) will clash for the third place honors.
In other Thursday league results, the Homeboyz scored an easy 13-2 victory over the lowly Barcode Breakers (69-141), while National Alamo Car Rental (109-101 escaped with an 8-7 decision against Jonny’s Team SCS (70-140).
In the Tuesday league, the Saipan TV Hustlers remained on top of the heap with a 143-67 record after winning by default against the Smoke Pub Lancheras, 15-0.
The Jokers IT&E Voyagers are in second place at 135-75 following a 13-2 thrashing of Smoke Pub Sang&D’Gang, while the Str8 Shooters, also backed by Jokers, breezed to a 12-3 win over Jonny’s Crazy 8. The Str8 Shooters are still in contention for the second finals berth, as they trail sister team Voyagers by only one win, 134-76.
The final elimination round matches will be played tomorrow with the Str8 Shooters visiting the Hustlers, the Voyagers taking on the Lancheras, and the Crazy 8 battling the Sang&D’Gang. (Jon Perez)
