Route 33 Armatech Hustlers found little resistance against erstwhile co-leader Smoke Pub Magic 8 Ball to grab sole possession of the top ranking in the 2014 Budweiser Open 8-Ball Thursday Billiards League held last week in various bars on Saipan.

The Hustlers posted a 10-5 win over Magic 8 Ball to hike their record to 47-28 and in the process relegating their opponents to third at 42-33. Jokers Homeboyz is currently at second place (43-32).

Back-to-back wins by Rowel Mariano and Simeon Kapileo sealed the deal for Armatech as their victories against Magi 8 Ball’s Rodel dela Cruz and Rey Hermogenes for an 8-4 advantage.

All matches need to be completed as each win and loss will have an affect on the standings. Armatech won two of the last three doubles games.

Wild Bill’s Wild Wild West (40-35), Poseidon Titans (38-37), Barcode Breakers (34-41), Round Two National Alamo Car Rental (33-42), and Jonny’s Team SCS (23-52) completed the standings.

In other Thursday contests, Wild Bill’s, Homeboyz, and Titans each pulled off similar 8-7 wins over Round Two, SCS, and Breakers.

In Tuesday League action, the Jokers IT&E Voyagers scored an easy 13-2 decision over the Smoke Pub Lanchera Girls to pad its lead, 56-19, over closest pursuer and the second-running Saipan TV Hustlers, 49-26.

The Jokers Str8 Shooters are in close third at 47-28 after absorbing an 8-7 loss at the hands of the Hustlers.

The Jhonny’s Crazy 8 came in fourth at 37-28 following a 10-5 dumping of Smoke Pub Sang&D’ Gang.

Smoke Pub remains in fifth place with a 22-53 slate, while the Lanchera Girls are at the cellar with a 14-61 card. (Jon Perez)
