Hustlers back on top, aim to make final push
The Route33 Armatech Hustlers hope to make a final push for the Budweiser Open 8-Ball Thursday League crown when the tournament plays its final matches on Nov. 20 at various bars on the island.
The Hustlers are back on top of the standings after a 13-2 thrashing of the Barcode Breakers and thanks to a 9-6 loss by Smoke Pub against the Jokers Homeboyz the former hold a precarious one-win lead over the Magic 8 Ball.
The Route33-backed squad has a 117-78 record and followed closely by Magic 8 Ball’s 116-79 slate.
In other results, Wild Bill’s defeated Jonny’s Team SCS, 9-6, and National Alamo Car Rental escaped with an 8-7 triumph over the Titans. The Homeboyz (109-86), Wild Bill’s (105-90), Titans (102-93), National Alamo (101-94), Breakers 67-128) and Team SCS (63-132) complete the standings.
The Hustlers and Magic 8 Ball gun for important wins on Thursday when they take on the Titans and Wild Bill’s, respectively. The Breakers close out their season against the Homeboyz, while Team SCS battle National Alamo in the other matches.
In the Tuesday league, which has two more weeks of competition, the Saipan TV Hustlers and the Jokers IT&E Voyagers are also neck-and-neck for the title.
An 11-4 win by the Hustlers over Sang&D’Gang gave them a 128-67 record and a five-win advantage over closest pursuer Voyagers, who cruised to an 11-5 win against Jonny’s Crazy 8.
The Str8 Shooters trounced the Lancheras, 11-4, in the other match.
The Voyagers are in second place in the standings with a 123-72 mark, followed by the Jokers Str8Shooters (122-73), Crazy (98-97), Sang&D’Gang (81-114) and Lancheras (33-162). (Jon Perez)
