Despite the persistent rain that drenched hundreds during the concert, nothing could stop the crowd from surging toward the stage after J Boog came out a quarter to 10pm.
Coming on stage after local performers entertained the crowd, J Boog’s crew members hyped the crowd up. As “J Boogs” name was being chanted, the man himself got on stage and started his live performances.
Fans enjoyed singing along with J Boog and his interaction with the crowd was one of the highlights of the night.
The event started at 5:30pm and ended around 10pm. An after-party was later held at GIG.
Concert coordinator Nola Hix thanked everyone for coming and the sponsors for attending.
Jerry “J Boog” Afemata said the way he makes his music is all “feel good music.”
“It actually comes from the heart and we incorporate reggae music. One of the first jams we have been listening to and it is pretty much everywhere even from the islands back home and in California. It worked well with what we went through at the time and it goes well with everybody,” J Boog said.
J Boog counts iconic reggae singer Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, and other reggae musicians and bands among his inspirations.
“I don’t think there is any other type of genre that I can explain myself other than reggae,” J Boog said.
J Boog has already performed twice in Guam but this is his first time to visit Saipan.
“It is kind of cool being here on Saipan because we get to see other people from afar,” J Boog said.
The concert was made possible by Steven Brownstein, in collaboration with Twwwinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino, Alter City Group, Megastars Ent., Bank of Guam, Priority Care, KZMI FM, Happy Idea Co., Sunleader, and Best Sunshine.
