HSEM announces the International Great ShakeOut
CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management will announce the 2022 Annual Great ShakeOut in the Northern Mariana Islands on Oct. 20 at 9am.
The Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands ShakeOut is an annual opportunity to practice “Drop, Cover, and Hold On,” which is a safer response to large earthquakes. The ShakeOut has also been planned to encourage you, your community, your school, or your organization to review and update emergency preparedness plans and supplies, as well as to secure your space to prevent damage and injuries.
Before the next major earthquake, Northern Mariana Islanders need to be better prepared, and we need to practice protecting ourselves when one occurs. The ShakeOut aims to assist people and organizations in achieving both of these goals. There are various ways to take part in the ShakeOut, to get ready for earthquakes, to share what you’re doing with others so they may do the same, and to involve yourself with community groups, businesses, schools, faith-based organizations, scouts, and other organizations.
The ShakeOut is free and open to the public. Once registered, participants receive regular information on how to plan their drill and become better prepared for earthquakes and other disasters.
