HS graduates urged to attend Cash for College Workshop on June 18
Northern Marianas College is asking parents of recent high school graduates to encourage their son or daughter to take advantage of the services offered at the Cash for College workshop set for June 18, 2016
The aim of the workshop is to assist students and their parents to maximize scholarship opportunities that are available for those seeking a college education at NMC or at other postsecondary institutions. Many students who have attended previous Cash for College workshops are now receiving thousands of dollars to advance their education.
The free workshop will be held on June 18, 2016, Saturday, at Building A at NMC’s As Terlaje campus. It is open to anyone in the community who would like assistance in finding money for college—whether they are recent high school graduates or not. The workshop will be an ongoing session, so participants can stop by anytime between 9am to 3pm.
Participants will be provided with personal, step-by-step assistance in completing college financial aid forms, focusing especially on forms for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the Saipan Higher Education Financial Aid, and the CNMI Scholarship.
Staff members from the college’s Office of Admissions and Records will also be present to provide information and assistance with the NMC application process.
Although not required, it is recommended that workshop participants bring a valid form of identification (e.g., a valid passport, birth certificate, or green card), at least three official transcripts, signed 2015 1040 tax form (2015 W-2 statements if you and/or your parents did not or will not file taxes), proof of CNMI residency for 2014 and 2015 (for example, CNMI 1040 tax form, Employment Verification from your employer, Official Transcripts, Voters Certification, etc.)
The Cash for College workshop is made possible by the financial support of the U.S. Department of Education’s College Access Challenge Grant program. This federal program aims to increase the number of students from underrepresented minority populations enrolled in college.
