HOW TO WEAR A FACE MASK
When wearing a face mask, regardless of the type or material, it is important to adhere to the following guidelines:
• Before putting on the mask, wash your hands or use hand sanitizer. Follow proper technique and scrub for at least 20 seconds.
• When putting on the mask, make sure that it covers both your nose and mouth, and ensure that there are no gaps on the sides.
• While wearing the mask, avoid adjusting or touching the front of it. If you do, immediately wash or sanitize your hands. DO NOT pull the mask down over your chin to talk to someone.
• Remove the mask using the straps around the ears or the back of the head. Immediately dispose of single-use masks and place cloth masks in a designated bin to be washed. Wash your hands again after the mask removal is complete.
Remember, the purpose of the mask is to protect others from germs that you may be carrying. By touching the front of your mask, you may be getting the germs trapped by the mask on your hands and spreading them to objects and other people by touch. Additionally, touching the front of your mask or wearing it on other parts of the face can transfer germs that you have picked up from objects and people onto the mask which, if then placed back over your mouth and nose, may allow those germs to permeate the material of the mask and get in your mouth or nose. This is especially important when wearing cloth masks.
