House panel chairs name members

The chairmen of seven of the 11 House committees have released the composition of their respective groups. All 15 GOP members were given key positions under the leadership of House Speaker Rafael S. Demapan (R-Saipan).

Each committee will consist of not more than seven members.

Rep. Gregorio M. Sablan Jr. (R-Saipan), who is among six new lawmakers in the House, heads the Federal and Foreign Affairs Committee, with Rep. Angel A. Demapan (R-Saipan) as vice chair. Rep. JP Sablan (R-Saipan), and Saipan independents Reps. Blas Jonathan T. Attao, Lorenzo I. Deleon Guerrero, Edwin K. Propst, and Vinson F. Sablan are members.

Deleon Guerrero (R-Saipan) will head the newly established Gaming Committee. Rep. Edwin P. Aldan (R-Tinian) is the vice chair. Attao, Angel A. Demapan, Reps. Ivan A. Blanco (R-Saipan), Joseph Leepan T. Guerrero (R-Saipan), and minority leader Edmund S. Villagomez (Ind-Saipan) are members.

Rep. Jose I. Itibus (R-Saipan) is the Health and Welfare Committee chair; Vice Speaker Janet U. Maratita (R-Saipan) is vice chair. Former vice speaker Francisco S. Dela Cruz (R-Saipan), Reps. Greg Sablan, Donald C. Barcinas (R-Saipan), Alice S. Igitol (R-Saipan), and Vinson F. Sablan (Ind-Saipan) are members.

Blanco chairs the Judiciary and Governmental Operations Committee and will be joined by House floor leader Glenn L. Maratita (R-Rota), JP Sablan (vice chair), Reps. Aldan, Attao, Villagomez, and Francisco C. Aguon (R-Saipan) as members.

Dela Cruz will head the Public Utilities and Communications Committee with Aguon as vice chair. Guerrero, Itibus, Aldan, and Attao are members.

Aguon will be the Social and Human Services Committee chair and will be joined by Joseph Deleon Guerrero as vice chair. Dela Cruz, Attao, Itibus, Igitol, and Lorenzo Deleon Guerrero are members.

Barcinas will chair the Transportation Committee. Aguon will have his second committee as vice chair, with Aldan, Attao, Dela Cruz. Itibus, and Lorenzo Deleon Guerrero as members.

Angel Demapan is the new Ways and Means Committee chair and, per rules of the House, will be joined by all the committee chairs and the minority leader as members. The composition of the Commerce and Tourism (Guerrero), Education (Aldan), and Natural Resources (Igitol) committees have not yet been released.

The Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation also held its organizational session on Wednesday at the House chamber on Capital Hill. Rep. John Paul P. Sablan retained his post as delegation chair.

Sen. Sixto K. Igisomar (R-Saipan) is SNILD vice chair, with former House speaker Joseph P. Deleon Guerrero (R-Saipan) as floor leader. Reps. Alicia Leon Guerrero and Pedro O. Towai were appointed as SNILD clerk and sergeant-at-arms.
