House minority members support Senate increase for retirees’ bonus
Rep. Angel A. Demapan (R-Saipan) and four members of the House of Representatives minority bloc are supporting the Senate’s substitute to House Bill 22- 91, HD1. The measure, which is now H.B. 22-91, HD1, SS1, was passed by the Senate to increase the amount of retirees’ bonus from $500 to $1,000.
In addition to Demapan, the four other lawmakers backing the increase in retiree bonus are Reps. Joseph Lee Pan T. Guerrero (R-Saipan), Roy A. Ada (R-Saipan), Patrick H. San Nicolas (R-Tinian), and Joseph A. Flores (I-Saipan).
Demapan
Demapan authored Public Law 20-10, the statute that provided retirees with their bonuses in 2017 and 2018, the last time government retirees were given a bonus.
H.B. 22-91, HD1, SS1, is now before the House of Representatives and, if passed, will head to Gov.r Ralph DLG Torres for his approval.
“It’s been a few years since our retirees have had the opportunity to receive a bonus,” noted Demapan. “We are grateful that the Senate leadership was able to increase the bonus amount to $1,000 and we are ready to support when it appears on the House session agenda. Our retirees have been patient and we would like to see them get these funds as soon as possible.” (PR)
