House lauds Benavente’s efforts to promote CNMI tourism

Vicky Benavente, who chairs the Marianas Tourism Education Council, has been presented with a House of Representatives resolution to give due recognition to her efforts to promote tourism in the Commonwealth.
At a House session on Friday, lawmakers gave a plaque of recognition to Benavente, who was voted 2014’s “Business Person of the Year” by the Saipan Chamber of Commerce.
The resolution cited Benavente’s efforts on tourism promotion and voluntary works.
Upon receiving the plaque, Benavente again emphasized the importance of tourism in the Commonwealth and thanked the lawmakers for the recognition. She said tourism continues to be “everybody’s business and not just the Chamber’s.”
She vowed to continue helping the growth of local tourism, which continues to be Saipan’s No. 1 industry.
Benavente was cited by the Chamber for her extensive work in the tourism industry and her involvement with a number of outreach and volunteer programs benefiting the local community.
Benavente, the wife of former lieutenant governor Diego Benavente, is a veteran of the CNMI’s tourism sector, having worked more than 30 years in the local tourism and hospitality industry.
She is currently the executive assistant manager of Pacific Islands Club Saipan.
