House honors former lawmaker Gregorio B. Sablan
Rep. Angel Demapan (R-Saipan) will introduce a House commemorative resolution to honor the late Gregorio Bermudes Sablan, a former two-term House representative from 1985 to 1990.
Sablan also served as director of the Legislative Bureau from 1992 until 1995, when he retired from government service, according to the resolution. He had also been administrative officer and staff director in the House prior to becoming a lawmaker.
“It would be extremely difficult to find a person with similar compassion and devotion, like that of the Honorable Gregorio Bermudes Sablan,” the resolution states.
“[He] was a man who dedicated his life to family and the residents of this great Commonwealth,” it adds.
Sablan began his government service as a temporary apprentice for the Department of Public Works of the U.S. Naval administration in 1952, continuing his service as an employee for the Far East Foundation under the Naval administration until 1953.
Upon graduating high school, Sablan become a communications operator under the Naval administration and then the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands.
In 1969, Sablan was commended for an “outstanding performance in coordinating and arranging the medical evaluation of a three year old boy from the island of Rota ‘in the highest tradition of communication service.’” (Dennis B. Chan)
