House honors baseball champs
The House of Representatives presented the CNMI Senior League baseball team with a commendation after representing the Asia Pacific region in this year’s World Series in Easley, South Carolina.
The team is composed of a selection of the best players from the teams that competed in the 2018 Asia Pacific-Middle Regional Tournament last July at the Global Villages, Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga.
Rep. Alice S. Igitol (R-Saipan) introduced House Resolution 20-38, which commends the CNMI team for beating their opponents in the annual regional tournament to earn their spot in the Senior League World Series.
The team lost to Guam, 10-3, and New Zealand, 4-3, but defeated Indonesia, 15-0 for a 1-2 record in the six-team field. They dispatched Hong Kong, 6-3, to arrange a semifinals showdown with tournament leader Guam.
They pulled off a 9-2 upset over the highly favored Guam side to clinch a title matchup with host team Philippines, where they completed a 4-2 finals win.
Igitol said the team’s coaching staff, composed of manager Doru Camacho, head coach Juan Manibusan, and assistant Vicente Camacho, helped guide the children in pulling off the victory.
“The CNMI Senior League All-Star team was successful because of solid coaching and execution of fundamentals and discipline. The fans of the [team also] showed enthusiasm, support, and courtesy for the game,” said Igitol.
“The [team’s] performance demonstrated to parents and communities throughout the Asia Pacific region that athletic participation builds character and leadership in children. The achievements of the [team] is the cause of enormous pride for the CNMI, especially for the island of Saipan.”
Leveque Iguel, Vicente Camacho II, Josenio Alvarez, Kianna Aldan, Pedro Maratita, Jordan Babauta, Dennis Cabrera, Justin Peter Celis, Aven Evangelista, Joaquin Fleming, Trevon Lieto, Ignacio Mendiola, Donovan Deleon Guerrero, Joel Norita, orren Cody Cruz, and Arby Yaguel were the members of the team.
Manager Camacho thanked the House for the commendation. “Thank you to all the members for this presentation. These guys [players], they are really awesome. We did our best and are proud to represent our islands. Good job [boys].”
